"Aleksey Maksimovich Peshkov" on March 16, 1868, in Nizhny Novgorod,
Russia--later renamed in his honor--Maxim Gorky would learn early the harsh
lessons of life. He spent his early childhood in Astrakhan where his father
worked as a shipping agent, but when the boy was only five years old, his father
died, and he was sent to live with his maternal grandparents. This was not a
happy time for the young Gorky as conditions were poor and often violent. At
the age of eight, the boy's grandfather forced him to quit school and apprenticed
him to several tradesmen including a shoemaker and an icon painter. Fortunately,
Gorky also worked as a dishwasher on a Volga steamer where a friendly cook taught
him to read, and literature soon became his passion. Read

My
Father. I have told few words in my thanks page. He
is the only man (in this list) I have met in this life! I am inspired by his
words, by his works, by his attitude towards life and by his whole life (infront
of my eyes). He is a person of vast knowledge in variouse subjects like Poetry(both
english and Tamil),Politics,Philosophy,Linguistics and Economics. He made a
collection of around 2000 books in his lifetime in that small village and in
that modest house! He also got his diplomo in Russian and Hindi. His thirst for
knowledge and love for humanity had grown day by day ...till his last moment. He
used to work even on sundays for the upliftment of village students and he never
earned any money from any students for his Private studies(tutions)! He used
to say," They are coming for private studies because I have not taught
them fully in the class room it seems and that is why they are coming to meet
me for a private study....still I have to become a better teacher to stop them
coming', when other teachers are asking him not to offer this tutions for free!

Thoughts
for Youth- "The biggest problem Indian youth faced, I felt, was a lack
of clarity of vision, a lack of direction. It was then that I decided to wrire
about the circumstances and people who made me what I am today; the idea was
not merely to pay tribute of some individuals or highlight certain aspects of
my life. What I wanted to say was that no, one, however poor, unprevilieged
or small need feel disheartened about life. Problems are a part of life. Suffering
is the essence of success ." Science, according to Kalam, is a global phenomenon.
He feels there are a few areas where India can develop its core competence.
These areas are software engineering, computer products and design, agriculture
and food, aviation, defence research and space technology and chemical engineering.
"This will lead to a highly beneficial economic and social progress for
the nation." Read
